Our shore excursion from Naples Port to Pompeii and Herculaneum with wine tasting is ideal for those that are interested in history and archeology and that want to also enjoy the flavors of Campania.

The tour lasts about 8 hours and is available with departure either from your hotel or from the ports of Naples, Salerno, Amalfi and Sorrento.

Pompeii the archaelogical site

After a short drive, we will arrive at the first stop of our shore excursion from Naples port, the ancient archaeological site of Pompeii which was discovered after centuries of excavations that begun in 1748.The city of Pompeii, buried by the fury of Vesuvius in 79AD, a Unesco World Heritage site, is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world. We estimate that every year over 3 million visitors come to visit it.

Here you can visit the ruins with the help of audio guides or follow one of the guides from the Campania region that your driver can contact for you and who will take you on a discovery of the most famous places of Pompeii: the Villa dei Misteri, the Foro and the patrician houses like the Casa del Fauno, the Casa degli Amorini Dorati, the Casa dei Dioscuri and the Casa dei Vettii.

Herculaneum

After the visit of about 2 ½ hours, you will continue on to Herculaneum, full of history, frescoes, statues and archaeological finds of rare beauty. Herculaneum was founded by Hercules from whom the city took its name and suffered the same fate of nearby Pompeii, covered by lava in the eruption of 79AD and buried under a thick layer of about 20 metres of mud and eruptive materials. During the visit to the archaeological site of Herculaneum, which you can do with audio guides available in multiple languages, you will see the magnificent houses with mosaic decorations, roads, artifacts and 3D reconstructions of the city prior to the volcanic eruption.

The last stage of the shore excursion to Pompeii and Herculaneum from Naples port, is at the foot of Mount Vesuvius in a winery where you can taste 5 different Lacryma Christi wines accompanied by typical dishes from Campania: meats and cheeses: tomato bruschetta, spaghetti with tomato and fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil and typical desserts from Campania like the pastiera, a sweet pastry filled with cream and corn cooked in milk which is traditionally prepared for Easter and which will be served with an apricot liqueur produced on the premises.

My travel agent recommended that I contact Vittorio at star cars the moment she heard that I wanted to go to Sorrento, Italy. Along the way he stopped so we could take pictures and told us about the history of the amalfi coast. He was very knowledgeable, I learned a lot. We spent the day in Ravello and Positano. Both are beautiful, but Positano is magical. I’m so so glad that I contact Vittorio at star cars, it made this vacation the best one yet!! Can’t wait to go back again!
