The Positano, wine tasting and Pompeii private tour organised by Star Cars is the tour of the senses because on the same day you'll see amazing places, listen to tales of the ancient city of Pompeii that was buried by volcanic debris after the furious eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD and taste one of the best wines of this great and generous land that is Campania.

Our tour to Positano and Pompeii with local wine tasting will last 9 hours, from 8am to 5pm, and it is available from Sorrento (hotels or port), and from the ports of Salerno, Amalfi and Naples.

The Positano, wine tasting, Pompeii tour

The first stop on our tour is Pompeii, an old town from 1748 which was buried under a thick blanket of ash and lapilli 1700 years ago. Having reached the entrance of the excavations you will begin visiting this incredible archaeological site, unique in the world and a Unesco World Heritage site since 1997, which preserves the remains of the ancient Roman civilization, since Pompeii was a municipality of the Empire and a thriving commercial city.

The visit will take you on a discovery of all the most famous areas of Pompeii, the Foro, the economic, political and religious centre of the city, the temples of Giove and of Iside, the Basilica, the houses and residential villas such as the Casa del Fauno and the Casa dei Vettii and the famous Villa dei Misteri with its frescoes in Pompeian red, found during the centuries of excavations that have unearthed countless human bodies surprised by the disaster and people who died from poisonous fumes during the eruption and earthquake that followed.

The visit can be done alone, with audio guides available at the entrance of the excavations, or if you prefer, your driver will assist you in contacting an authorised guide of the Campania region that will explain the ruins to you in detail.

Tasting of Lacryma Christi on Mount Vesuvius

After this exciting tour of Pompeii that will last about 2 hours, we will drive to one of the most famous vineyards which is situated on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and that produces Lacryma Christi DOC, a wine produced from local grapes of the Vesuvius already known at the time of Romans and whose name literally means ‘tears of Christ’ (legend has it that this vine was born thanks to the tears of Jesus).

In this famous winery, you will visit vineyards and have lunch with food specialties of the Campania region: an appetizer with salame, provolone cheese, bruschetta, homemade bread and olive oil, spaghetti with tomatoes and finally a typical Neapolitan dessert, accompanied by 5 types of wines (white, red and rosé), some spumante and an apricot liqueur (as a digestif).

Positano - The vertical city on the Amalfi Coast

After this fantastic experience, we will travel to Positano on the Amalfi coast. The town is perched on a rocky mountain that runs along the scenic road that almost looks like a nativity and there we will make a few stops in the most scenic spots that our driver will show you, ideal to take the best pictures of this day. Unforgettable views, hidden beaches and a lot of vegetation rich in the typical Mediterranean plants: brooms, olive trees and large agaves.

In Positano, you will have some free time to visit the centre, walk along the famous alleys and stairways that run through the city of Vips, do some shopping at one of the many shops that sell the famous Positano beach fashion or leather hand-made sandals, and reach the beach of Positano, one of the most glamorous beaches in the world and one of the largest of the Amalfi Coast, with its promenade of 300 metres which is overlooked by many bars and restaurants that are frequented by tourists that come from all over the world and where you can often meet familiar faces, celebrities and jet-setters intent on enjoying the unique sight of Positano bay, in front of a good fish dish or a drink.

Our Positano - Wine tasting - Pompeii tour ends with the return to your hotel or home port of your ship, where the Sorrento Star Cars driver will drop you off about 4pm.
